Welcome to my personal website. I am a professor in the Department of Psychology
and the Beckman Institute
for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois. My research explores the limits of our own minds and the reasons why we often are unaware of our limits. I teach classes in the field of visual cognition at the undergraduate and graduate level. I also teach introductory psychology and graduate classes on research best practices and speaking/writing for general audiences.
Beyond my academic work, I am a writer
and keynote speaker
. My first book, The Invisible Gorilla
, was co-authored by Christopher Chabris and was first published in 2010 (by Crown). It became a NY Times and international bestseller and has been translated into 19 languages worldwide.
